Rules for creating high CTR ads

Written by Olga

The more clicks an ad receives, the more potential customers visit the website.

The CTR is calculated using the following formula:

Knowing the CTR (click-through rate), you can objectively assess the effectiveness of a particular ad and of the advertising campaign as a whole.

How to create an ad with a high CTR?

As a rule, the CTR value is relatively low — about 0.1–2%. However, there are several effective ways to significantly increase it.

1. Precise targeting and relevant images

Analysis of the target audience is the first step in creating any promotional material. Before you start designing images or writing ad text, try to gather as much information about the target demographic as possible: who they are, their age, where they live, what they are interested in, and so on. Using this information, it will be much easier to encourage a specific demographic to click on your teaser.

For example, if a perfume store creates a teaser, it might contain an image of a bottle of perfume and a short catchy phrase. Teasers created this way will have a relatively low CTR (often not more than 1%); however, the number of conversions among those who do click can be relatively high, since the ad specifically targets a narrow segment of the audience.

Which type of image will result in a higher number of conversions? This often needs to be tested. For example, the two ads below have the same text, yet the one on the left received half as many conversions as the one on the right.

2. Animation and interactive elements

You can create a high-CTR teaser or banner with animation or interactive elements. While animated teasers and interactive banners cannot be created within Kadam itself, you can upload GIFs or other formats of ads to the system. Here are two examples of banners with animated elements:

In the image on the left, the line in the center could shift from one side to the other, showing the "before" and "after" effects of the product, while the image on the right could use flashing text to catch the user's attention.

3. Eye-catching image

Ads that include eye-catching images get more clicks and conversions than ads with overused images. For products such as cosmetic creams and masks, "before and after" ads work well. An example of a "before and after" ad is shown below:

4. Brightness and contrast

Bright colors and contrasting images immediately catch the eye, which helps increase CTR. Here is an example of such a banner:

5. Limited time offers

A limited timeframe can spark interest in the promotional offer and contribute to a higher CTR. Examples include a promotion valid only until a certain date, or a limited quantity of the product.

6. Discounts

Ironically, the desire to save money is often one of the strongest motivators for a customer to make a purchase. Leveraging this tendency can increase the CTR of your advertising materials.

7. Intriguing headlines and compelling phrases

After a catchy image, the next thing the user pays attention to is the headline and the ad text. In the ad as a whole, the image is responsible for attracting attention, while the text keeps the interest in the product and drives the sale. Here are some examples:

  • "Losing weight for the lazy!"

  • "Urgent weight loss: lose 50 lbs in a month!"

  • "Elegant watches every man dreams of!"

Remember! The text should be relevant to the image, well composed, simple, and understandable to the user (avoid technical jargon).

Consistency between your promotional materials and your landing/pre-landing pages

If you have created the landing page yourself, keep in mind that the text on the landing page is just as important as the text on the ad. After reading it, the visitor must want to place an order. For this reason, common stories like "I bought a beauty mask, and the wrinkles on my face immediately smoothed out" will not work. A better strategy is to tell an interesting or surprising story. This tactic works especially well if the advertisement is endorsed by a famous person, supported by examples and photographs.

At the end of the landing page, there should be minimal text. The customer has already read the initial advertisement and has familiarized themselves with the product. The last step is to push them to place an order.

We will go into more detail on the creation of landing pages in a future article.

Conclusion

Experienced affiliate marketers develop a certain flair for their advertising materials, knowing which images and offers to use, what to write, and which formats will be most effective. That said, it is impossible to predict every aspect of an advertising campaign with 100% accuracy. For this reason, in affiliate marketing, you need to test everything! Sometimes the least likely ideas succeed where the most carefully planned campaigns do not.

Even if you find a profitable campaign strategy, it will not remain profitable forever, as interest in a particular campaign style diminishes over time. An affiliate marketer's job is a constant flow between coming up with new ideas, analyzing the market, and moving on to new campaigns. Often the most efficient approach is to create a large amount of material, use a small portion of it, and improve and adapt the unused material for future ad campaigns.

All of this leads to high click-through and conversion rates.
