Kadam Smart Mediation: how to connect external ad networks

A step-by-step guide for publishers: connect external ad networks and monetize every traffic segment at its best price

Written by Olga

Kadam Smart Mediation lets you connect your accounts in external ad networks to a Kadam ad unit. Kadam compares offers from all connected sources and picks the best price for each traffic segment.

Overview

Setup takes three stages:

  1. API connections. Add an API key for each of your external network accounts. You do it once and can reuse the key in any ad unit.

  2. Kadam ad unit. Create a Kadam ad unit on the website you want to monetize, if it doesn’t have one yet.

  3. External placements. Link placements from external networks to the ad unit and set the traffic share.

Stage 1. API connections

Step 1. Open External monetization

In the left menu, go to External monetization and click Connect your first external ad network. This opens API connections, where you add an API key for each of your accounts in external networks.

Fill in the Add API connection form:

  • Network — the external network where you have an account.

  • Connection name — any clear name, e.g. “Main account”. It helps you tell several accounts in one network apart.

  • API key — the key from your external network account. The connection is tested automatically.

No links are created at this stage. You are only saving access.

Stage 2. Kadam ad unit

Steps 2–3. Pick a website

Go to Websites and click the website you want to connect mediation to.

Steps 4–5. Create an ad unit and open external placements

If the website has no Kadam ad unit yet, create one with Add ad unit.

Then, in the ad unit row, click the arrow icon (the second to last one). The external placements window opens.

Stage 3. External placements

Step 6. Add a placement

In the External placements window, click Add placement to add an external placement to this ad unit.

Step 7. Fill in the placement fields

  • Network and API connection — choose the network and the connection you created in step 1.

  • External placement — pick the placement from the list.

  • Network code — leave it empty. Fill it in manually only if you know for sure that you have “special” codes in the external network.

  • Initial traffic share, % — for now we recommend 10%.

Step 8. Save the placement

Check the remaining settings and click Save placement. If Active after saving is on, the placement starts working right away.

Step 9. Repeat for other placements

Repeat steps 6–8 for every external placement. The more sources you connect, the better Kadam can match each traffic segment with its best price.

Important: if you already have your own mediation

Add Kadam as a layer on top of it:

  1. Traffic. All website traffic goes through Kadam first.

  2. Kadam. Takes what it can buy at a high price.

  3. Your mediation. The rest goes to the same partners, with your current settings.

⚠️ You must create separate ad units in the external networks and connect exactly those to Kadam.
